sbr slurry

Would you recommend sbr slurry when rendering exterior walls, why is this used so often in rendering...
Is sbr the same as waterproofer, and what is the ratio mix for sbr slurry and do you leave this to dry out before putting the scratch coat on or put a coat on while wet.....

If the substrate is otherwise sound, an sbr slurry will

- provide a key
- equalise background suction
- seal up the wall
- help minimise crazing and cracking

If your background does not need any of this, such as concrete blocks , then you have no need for an sbr slurry.

You can add SBR to the render mix for waterproofing, but personally I wouldn't unless it was in a spec - it ******* setting and does not add 'life' to the stuff.

Different applications but as examples for dry or not dry.

For a key onto smooth background, brush 1:1:1 slurry (sharp sand:OPC:SBR) on and leave for 24 hours. The rough texture provides a key to render onto.

Or mix 1:1 OPC:SBR into a slurry and brush it on, rendering onto this when wet/tacky. Often you won't be able to do much with this coat as it will slump, so it is usually scratched or scudded for another coat.

You'd need a specific application for the specific spec
