Hi I have just removed my old dishwasher but had to cut the water supply pipe as I found a pump unit (maybe?) on the pipe see attached pic. It’s in a really awkward spot under the sink so I am wondering a. If it is a pump and b. Do I need to replace it when fitting the new dishwasher or c. Can I just get rid of it? The dishwasher is right next to the sink plumbing so I don’t know why an extra pump is required at all.

That is not a pump. It is a solenoid valve that allows water into the dishwasher when required. Without it the dishwasher will not function.
You need to remove that existing one where it connects to the isolation valve.
Your new dishwasher will already have one on the water supply pipe.

Ah thank you so much. Never heard of such a thing Just need to get the bugger off now then.

A set of grips on this nut and it should undo quite easily
