Shower drain leak, with pictures

I have had a leak coming through the ceiling below the shower. I have taken out the drain thing and found that where the trap?? Connects to the next pipe it just slipped and fell off with no resistance at all. Also there is clearly water been dripping from the join.
Should this be a better connection?
The two pictures show the black pipe that I can see has leaked and the end of the trap that was on that pipe and fell off.

Looks like it hasn't been installed properly. The black rubber seal that is sitting inside the trap outlet shouldn't be in that position.

The main trouble there is getting to it with 2 hands to facilitate the refit. Probably time to cut an access in the ceiling below, as it really is the only way to get to it and do the job properly.

Had to take up a couple of floorboards and all sorted now.
