I have not long moved into a new house. The shower has been draining very slowly. When I drained all the water out and took the cover off there did not seem to be any obvious outlet (i.e. pipe) to take the water away.

I felt a full 360 degrees around the drain expecting to find a hole where the water drains to but did not find one. Now I am really confused. Following a shower, water takes up to 4 hours to drain away. I have attached a picture.

Any ideas?

That cup is part of the trap, it fills with water up to its lip and then the water spills over the lip and down the sides and through the holes. The chrome cap is part of it and usually dips down into it to form the water seal.

Some of them come with removable cups so that may pull out allowing you to clear the drain holes.

Would drain unblocker work in this type of fitting? I only want to try and remove it as a last resort, in case something goes wrong.

No, didn't mean remove it if the cup in the centre doesn't just lift out. Some of them are just dropped in and are designed just to be lifted out to empty anything caught in it.
