We have a showermate pump that pumps water to the sink and bath taps. It does not pump water into the shower. My husband had turned the cold water supply to the pump off and unaware of this I continued to use the water which emptied the overhead tank and caused the pump to airlock ( atleast this is our theory). Now when we turn the taps in the bathroom, the pump makes a weak whirring sound but the water pressure coming out of the tap is negligible. Is there any way we could fix this ourselves or would we need a plumber?

Thanks.

The double ended pumps are designed to be cooled and lubricated by water. Operating them without water at one end is likely to have damaged it.

In most applications they will not create an airlock and will be self venting.

Not many plumbers will be able to fault find on the pump and you would be better off getting a new pump of the same make and type and getting the plumber to swap them. A simple job IF the relevant isolating valves have been fitted.
