I have just altered my sink waste and plumbed it straight into the soil stack, one so i don't have unsightly drain pipes in my conservatory and the other to avoid the problem of access to the drain once my floor is in, i have had this set up in other houses, which led me to think why do it any other way? the original set up had the sink and washing machine waste going out through the wall, down into the ground and attaching to a trap arrangement which fed into the main drain, question is, is there any problem with hooking up with the soil pipe as i have done?

Thats the way its usually done now.

The old method of an open gulley was convenient and enabled easy cleaning and was really just a historical way of doing things.

Of course there is not always a soil stack close to a kitchen.
