Hi,

Could just do with some pointers and suggestions please.
No criticisms please as it already looks a mess to me.

I have just been around to a friends house. They have UFH on 2 floors. Apparently it works sometimes and other times it does not so am trying to establish what is going on and what to be looking for.
The airing cupboard is actually very tidy and has two x 2 port valves, marked heating (Drayton) and HW (Honeywell) and also has the programmer in there. The programmer is a Drayton LP522.
The boiler is a Grant oil and is outside the building, I have not checked but am sure it has it's own pump.
The setup so far looks like an 'S' plan. Boiler, cylinder, programmer, 2 valves.
I did find that when the programmer was OFF on both channels the boiler was still running.
I had mains coming from the orange wire of the Drayton heating valve even though it was in the relaxed position. I have replaced the microswitch, and this is now resolved.

There are a couple of towel radiators in the house so the Drayton valve may be there to serve just these.

So we move on ...........

There is an upstairs UFH manifold and a downstairs UFH manifold.
I have have added some images of the downstairs manifold....not tidy.
There are 5 thermostats downstairs.

If we set the programmer for CH 'On' and 'call for heat' on one of the thermostats then the Drayton valve opens, and the pump on the manifold runs. The flow pipe to the zone gets hot so all appears to be good, but we notice some time later the manifold pump is not running even though we are still 'calling for heat' on the room stat and we have mains going to the pump. Definately 230 v on the black cable going to the pump.
Seems simple but we are unsure of the purpose of the second wire going into the pump. It comes out of the manifold, see red arrows on image.

It may well be this is fine and working and I have yet to see it in a non working state.

1. Is it normal to have UFH under programmer controller or is it usually wired for 24x7 as each stat has a clock, i.e. outside of programmer control ?
2. What is the extra wire going into the pump ?
3. Anything else ?

Apologies for being a bit long winded.
