Hi Everyone

We have suddently been getting very musty smelling water in the bathroom hot and cold takes, tastes awful to (only drunk to test)

Would this be caused by the sudden hot weather in the UK? it literally started 5-6 days ago

Its 2pm and we just realised its the water so not checked if the tank has anything in it yet , will do in the morning but i know its covered.

If its alge, is there a chemical we can use to clean it or a plumber time?

Cheers to anyone who maybe able to help

Rob

go up to the loft and take the drowned pigeon out of the tank.

Look to see if the tank has a close-fitting cover and an insulating jacket. If not, go out and buy them. The insulation is to stop it getting warm in hot weather.

You can sterilise it with bleach after you have cleaned it out. Use the cold tap to drain it, rather than the hot, to prevent dirty water getting into the hot cylinder (you can flush through the hot cylinder later)

By adjusting the hot water to 60C or higher for a day or so, you will kill bacteria in the hot cylinder.

If you have no dead pigeon, there is another possible cause:

How old is the cylinder?

Has water been coming out of an overflow pipe?

How have you been heating the hot water?

Have you got a central heating feed & expansion tank in the loft? How full is it?

How high is this F&E compared to your cold water tank?

How full is the cold water tank (when you have not run any taps or flushed the WC for at least half an hour)?

If you can post photos of the tanks (inside and out), cylinder, and pipes around and over them, it may show something useful.
