l have a Peugeot 306 Turbo diesel (1.9 1997 R plate) prior to this l had Vauxhall Corsa diesels. The clutch pedal in the Peugeot seems to be much harder to depress than the Vauxhall, to such an extent that by the end of the working week l have knee ache!

l have had the clutch cable replaced, as when l first had the car the pedal would on occasions remain in the depressed position, this has now been rectified. l have also recently taken the car to a clutch specialist who stated that this was the case for most Peugeot's and that having the clutch replaced would not make a great deal of difference to the clutch pedal.

l would be extremely grateful if anyone has any other ideas or experience in this area.

Hi i also have a pug 306 td, the clutch pedal on mine is also heavy and ive had mine since 95 and its never needed a clutch or cable and is still going strong,i think you will find that they are just heavy, probably a gym membership might help, jim.

You could always check that the clutch fork and pedal pivots are smooth in operation. All lot of the trouble,i think ,is the routing of the cable from the left to right hand drive conversion. If you think about it the left hand drive cars have one nice straight cable run to the gearbox! :)

Thanks for the replies,

having had a few replies, from this & other forums, it would seem that the 306 diesel generally has a heavy clutch. Probably, as you say Confuse, that the routing of the cable has to cope with two right angle bends on its way to the gearbox.

Hello there, you will find that the clutch gets very heavy on Peugeot's when the clutch is getting worn, same as on most car, but these cars seem to be much worse. Hope this helps.

I'm coming in on this one a little late, but I've had two Peugeot 306 diesels from new and they do have very stiff clutch pedals even when new, the travel is very limited and you have to press the clutch right to the floor to disengage.
Hope this helps future viewers of this topic.

I was just wondering how much you paid for your clutch replacement? thanks
Mine cost me £500 plus. Beware sticking cables this can cause the clutch to slip at high revs causing excessive wear, and premature clutch replacement.
