Hi Everyone,

I was just wonderering if anyone had any suggestions for a re-assembly compound to use on a Petit Godin Multifuel 10kw Large Oval following a complete stripdown to refabricate the steel outer shell.

Would prefer to use a cartridge product, easier to apply and much more effective seal chances.

looking at Fortafix caulking product. in particular some flexibility as differrent thermal coefficients of components.

Any thoughts

Thanks in advance

Dow Corning do a high temperature silicone called 'Plumba Flue' which is used by range manufacturers and is red in colour. Works well on flue joints. Not sure if it comes in other colours.

Regin also make something similar which is black. Not used this though so can't recommend.

Should be available from heating spares places like Shoreheat or Plumbcenter or similar.

Silicone will breakdown above 300ºC so is not satisfactory. Fraxfil is a ceramic paste which will stand 1200ºC. It's available from here.

Thanks guys for replies.

Firstly may I say that this being a french stove and has clearly been made in rural france. (no offence). The principle of design hasn't changed much either.

I am not recreating a highly engineered piece of kit, but want to choose a product that I am happy with.

The main area I am concerned with is the seal between the ornate enamelled cast door frame which bonds to a single piece of .8mm rolled steel caseing which in turn wraps around the unit with a seam at the rear of the unit.

If I work on the temperature of combustion (excluding heat gain or loss) of the fuel being ~2000°C to start with. The unit to complete effective secondary combustion starts at ~600°C. Obviously due to heat loss the units case only reaches say <150°C and that is achieved by conduction.

However the exposure of the caulking to direct radiant heat as a result of combustion of the temperatures I have suggested(correct me If I am wrong please) may exclude silicone even HT or RTV silicone.

Fraxfil pdf here looks perfect for what I want so many thanks oilman

Cheers.
