suggestions for unusable tiled fireplace??

Hello all

Recently moved into a new house and the bedroom fireplace needs some TLC. Its only little, borded up in the middle but its just plain white square tiles. About a metre high and 80cm across. Planning on adding a mantel but at a loss how else to jazz it up :/

Facebook says:
