taking spotlights down?

Hi, I have 4 brass spotlights in the kitchen I want to take down, but they're in a extension part of the house, which has a flat roof over the top, so i can't get to the top to squeeze the legs inwards to push down into the kitchen!! Does that make sense?

I basically need a way to get them down from inside the kitchen without making a hash of the ceiling.

Any idea's?
