I wonder if you have a plain mixer shower or a thermostatic one?
I will guess that your hot water is supplied at low pressure from a tank in the loft to the cylinder, and that you do not have a combi boiler.
I wonder if the cold water is supplied at high pressure from the watermain?
How long has it been like this, and did it ever work properly?
