Unequal gap between stairs and wall

After ideas on how best to deal with this gap between the stairs and the wall.
At the top and bottom the gap is about this size,

but in the middle its like this,

Now the plaster is going to overlap the stairs in the middle as i'm plastering to about 10mm, but top and bottom the gap is larger than this.

Wood trim on top edge scribed to wall then plaster down to that .?

Yes that would look good but how to scribe it accurately.

Dot and dab with 6mm board?..... No doubt the original plasterwork varied in depth as well

No I'm doing a strip of 9mm board along the bottom so I can screed off that then using Hardwall. I don't like the finish of fully boarded.

Yes that would look good but how to scribe it accurately.

Does it need to be very accurate,? you are plastering over it .

is it a whole wall ? or just patching in?

Its about 1/3rd of the wall, left as much of the sound stuff where it is, but anything loose came off.
