Started off with hall radiator not heating up. British Gas came out said we needed a powerflush and quoted £658, however if some of the upstairs radiators are turned off the downstairs get really hot. Also when the heating comes on (twice a day on the timer) its really noisy. Any advice before I ring British Gas again?

Take off a small rad & empty it into a white bucket if water is black you will need a flush. If it is clear suspect faulty pump or swollen ball in y-plan valve (if you have one)

Also, don't pay BGs prices for powerflushing if it needs doing. Go into any plumbers merchants and there will be a notice posted on the wall of someone locally doing it for half that price.
