I have ordered a 0.94mx0.70m fossil slab I wish to wall mount. Unsure of the exact weight at the moment only that it is pretty darn heavy. The wall I'm planning mounting onto is presumably a plaster layer over concrete (fairly new apartment building). Any advice on methods and equipment best for this without potentially tearing the plaster off? Ideally I'd want something cupping the edges to to hold it in place with minimal overlaps rather than affixing anything directly to the fossil itself to preserve the specimen.

Sticking it to the wall is the easy bit - probably steel fixings embedded in resin.

Attaching the fossil to the fixings without damaging it is the hard bit, and I'd suggest looking for museum fabricators who are used to dealing with this sort of thing. Some form of stainless steel rod mesh around the perimeter of the fossil possibly. Your local museum probably know of people who would do this work.

bloody hell, just remembered my 1st ever job in the building when i was 17 was helping my gaffer do something very similar, iirc they had made a steel frame for it with legs.
now days the fixings you can buy are a hell of a lot better, but i would check the weight of the thing just to make sure, and go for over kill ;)

Thanks guys, been looking into it and going to pop down the museum to have a gander on the weekend. Building management aren't really up for us putting any fittings in the wall as it's the divider between apartments so looks like it'll be a stand, from what I've seen there's a style that will do the job
