Wall thickness

Hi all

If a Chimney breast has been removed in the kitchen internally (between a kitchen and living room) in a 1930's semi from ground floor level what thickness should the brick be? Mine are half a brick in size? To put it into perspective I have a disused fire in the living room. If I were to move that away I can see the kitchen plasterboard.

So I have the rsj supporting the from of the breast spanning from wall to wall. One end bearing resting on half brick (running lengthways) the other going into an outside wall.

Internal walls are normally of half-brick thickness downstairs.
No problem in supporting a steel beam off it.

Thank you. What would be the minimum size beam expected for a 3 bed semi spanning wall to wall supporting upto the stack? I'm trying to ascertain whether I should get calculations done for he beam aswell as beams supporting a knock through that I
Mentioned in a previous post. The chimney breast depth was about 450mm.
