Water Level problem - Hotpoint W/M

We have a Hotpoint Aquarius w/m model WMA58 sveral years old. It seems run fine but clothes hardly get wet during the wash cycle. I suspect the water inlet is being cut off a little before the required level. Anybody give me a pointer where to look inside ? What does the the water level sensor look like and how to clean or replace it ?
