I have a Glow worm energysaver 50e boiler running 14 radiators through microbore tubing. One motorised valve for the hot water which is stored in a standard cylinder - pretty normal set-up which is about 12 years old and has been well maintained.
I have had a sudden increase in boiler noise (kettling) and my hot water is excessively hot. the cylinder cold feed pipe is warming up slightly and the vent pipe also feels warm up to about half way towards the header tank in the loft - indicating that the water is getting too hot.
My first thought was they cylnder stat was not working but I can hear it click on & off & the motorised valve can be heard moving (including a change in the sound of the water flow).
My question is why is my hot water getting so hot? surely the cylinder stat should switch the motorised valve when it reaches temp and stop heating the water in the cylinder?
An eon engineer suggested a powerflush was needed which may be the case for the rads (although I have no blockages or excessive rad noise), but I can't see how this would affect the hot water? He also confirmed that the motorised valve & cylinder stat were working (although he didn't seem 100% proficient with his multimeter!). I am currently running the system with x400 and will flush ina week or so.
Could it be the boiler stat? Any other suggestions??
