Hello, does anybody have any idea what is causing these deposits. The filter in which they are collecting is on the return of a heating system with a vokera combi. There are only four plinth heaters connected to the central heating.

The problem is these deposits somehow get past the filter and are blocking the plate to plate so it has to be cleaned out every few weeks.

The little bits are like small pebbles but can be crushed fairly easily and they break down a bit like chalk.

Any ideas?? Thanks

I'm in yorkshire the water is pretty good, never had a hard water problem in central heating before...

They look like opal but thats got a hardness of "7".

To see if they are a carbonate put them in an acid and see if they fizz!

Its better to peel off the outer fine gauze as its likely to get blocked with very fine material which would not greatly bother the boiler.

I think you've discovered the mythical tooth fairy lair.

Have you tried flushing the system ?
