The Indesit washing machine that was left for us doesn't seem to work. It's as if the dial gets stuck and you have to move it on to get the washing going again.

We are worried about throwing good money after bad as we don't know how old it is or what's wrong with it. So we're wondering whetther we should just get another one. Or should we give it a chance and get someone out to look at it?

If we get another one we don't have much money to spend - around £200. What should we get? We don't expect to be in the flat for more than 3-4 years and assume we'll leave the machine for new buyers, so it doesn't actually have to last forever...

Any advice?

First of all, do an internet search for the instruction book, download and print it off. If you can't find a solution there and really want a "cheap" machine, try a local independent w/machine repairers - they could have some good quality (e.g. Bosch) 2nd hand machines available for much less than the £200 you have to spend.
