my hot water tank is leaking from the thermostat can any body help its just coming out of the tube where the thermostat goes into the immersion element. please help

Have seen this once before. Just buy and fit a new element and stat.
Many thanks, had just tried replacing the thermostat as this had gone but could not stop the water dripping out.
Thought I might have to replace the whole unit, at least they are not too expensive..
