Not totally true. Energy would only be picked up EFFICIENTLY by gadgets designed to "resonate" with the field.

It would induce currents and / or potential differences in any electrically conductive material in the path of the energy beam.
 
that is all old hat, it was done years ago, they tried it with microwaves, but the soon gave up, guess why
 
In the 70's our college lecturer showed us the principle using two large coils at the ends of a long workbench approx 10' apart
he mangaed to get 1000volts+ out of the secondary coil (non connected coil) and displayed this by drawing arcs between the probes these actually burnt quite deep tracks into the worktop!
