Vokera Linea 28 boiler

APS can most certainly be an intermittient thing, afterall they are just a basic switch, think the explanation of a venturi would have been a good idea..... sorry you're having a such a rough ride with BG

WRT Linea boiler. The fan will not run if flow switch not operated. Venturi fault would only occur AFTER fan is running. I thought the fault was present on the boiler. If that is correct surely excellent flowchart back of manual would have assisted fault location and successful repair.

Fault was present when I first called out BG. Error 03 code and would not reset.

Since then they have replaced fan but boiler would not reset. They then replaced pcb and got boiler going again. Less than two weeks later same error code. This time it would reset. Engineer called and cleaned venturi and adjusted soft-light.

10 days later same fault again - error 03. Reset has worked.

Of course now they say that as fault is not there and boiler is working they cannot locate the fault. Obviously there is a fault as it should be cutting out every 10/14 days.

I did wonder about that.

Did you mean they should have explained it to me or what?

It is a bit of a problem. They have now been out 6 times and we still appear to be no further forward.

However I do appreciate that the fault now is not there when I call them out as the reset is working just now. However I can't keep resetting the boiler, especially as it's outside.

On this boiler the control knob shaft breaks. Turning the knob now has no effect i.e. the boiler does not reset.

Tonyboy, if thermocouple is the only component you carry in your van, you must be on the road a lot just sourcing and picking up parts.
.

Not really DP,don't just repair boilers do a bit of everything,(plumbing and boiler installs etc) to be honest. I try to get as much info out of the customer as possible re boiler make then go with some obvious things like thermistors etc.

I have an account with Curzon and before they became really really bad the manager then,John, used to give me everything (fan,PCB,APS,gas valve etc)on appro then I just returned what I didn't use and he charged me for what I did however I rarely go there now. Go to Heatspares instead now and just pay cash, mostly

The boiler is resetting now. I'm just getting fed up having to do it coupled with the uncertainty of waking up each day to perhaps having no heating and no hot water.

I just want the boiler working reliably as it has done for the last 9 years.

I would call Vokera tech and have a word with them or get them out on a FP repair at £175 and give the bill to BG.

However the boiler is nine years old so you should think long and hard about parting with serious cash, your already paying BG about £200 a year.

You can buy a Vokera compact 28SE for about £450 with two years warranty.

The engineer said today that the tsm will call and probaly get the manufacturers out next. Presumably that would be Vokera. I think I will insist on that happening next.

agree with tony, once this repair is fixed, bin BG, if you get 1 - 2 trouble free years out of your existing boiler you will have payed for a brand new one, only got to pay for fitting.

To a certain extent I agree with both of you. However as the boiler gets older the chances are that it may breakdown more often. Always difficult to know what to do for peace of mind.

I will do. However most of the cost is probably labour I should imagine. If I were to get a new boiler I would probably have to replace radiators too.

Why would you have to replace the rads? Your heating system is a sealed sytstem so the rads should be relatively ok,are they all heating up evenly with no cold spots? Has BG mentioned that your system is dirty?

Labour cost for replacing depends on a number of things-existing gas pipe size and available waste for an HE boiler ,position in tenement if you live in one and so one-but in the main your talking about a days labour without power flushing which will add another day to the work

Radiators are over at least 20 years old now(not sure exactly how old) - they were not replaced with last boiler change.

All evenly heating - no cold spots. One BG engineer who drained down the system to replace radiator valve said water was dirty but i can't say it was that bad. I think he was trying to persuade me to get Magnaclean fitted - said it was a BG product.

I live in a semi-detached bungalow and boiler is at present in a section at back of garage.

Personally I would leave the rads for the moment and just change the boiler.

Probably a good idea to have a powerflush done but if your thinking about changing the rads in the future I would perhaps only recommend a chemical flush then a PF when the new rads go in.

I would have thought the gas supply to the existing boiler would be ok otherwise BG would have had you do something about it.

I would definitely fit a Maganclean only other slight problem you might have is the condensate pipework but that can be overcome one way or another.

Also consider a wireless stat if you don't currently have a room stat fitted or a programmer in the house.

If you decide on a new boiler I'd be happy to give you a quote, contact details are in my profile.

Tony.

Programmer is in the house and trvs on radiators. Only time I ever feel this doesn't work well is spring/autumn when heating is sometimes not needed yet trvs still bring it on.

Thanks Tony. You're not far from me I see. Will keep you in mind once I see what happens with my current boiler. It has never given me a minute's trouble up unitl now.

Fortunately your on a BG contract which should really pay off for you now given you've probably paid into for a few years but sometimes you just get boilers that are money pits and you have to draw a line.

I have had a Sabre 35 HE,which is a Vokera compact, for three years now with not a bit of bother and before that a Vokera 24-96 R S E for 12 years which had never even been serviced and worked perfectly for all of those years but I wouldn't buy another Vokera unless a customer insisted on one.

Definitely wouldn't buy one again for myself.

Vokera CS is apalling these days as is thier Tech support. Most boilers are really a bit of a lottery to be honest but you have to take CS and Tech support into consideration when buying. There is a thread on here about a six month old Baxi Duotech that has gone toes up and baxi can't get someone out until next Monday, that is shockingly bad service and, sadly, all to common.

Tony.
