I have a excel consumer unit, and just had a new cooker fitted and the trip keeps going, manual states I need a 100ma trip but the unit comes with 80amp 30ma trip, does anybody know where I can get a new 100ma trip for this unit (10way)
What is the item that is tripping? IS it an RCD?
Please stop saying "trip"
There are several types of circuit protection device. MCB, RCD, FUSE, RCBO etc etc, Some are shown here
The please read the manual again. Are you SURE it says a 100mA RCD is required? That would be most unusual/
Bottom line is: if the 30mA RCD operates when the cooker is connected then there is a fault with the cooker.
The Hotpoint EW81 online manual I have seen does indeed say that but it was written in 2002 - and it also includes the statement that the cooker should be installed in accordance with the latest IEE Regulations - (BS7671 - 2011).the cooker is a hotpoint double oven EW81 Halogen and it definitely says it may be necessary to fit a 100ma RCCB Its the centre RCCB with yellow button
I think we have to assume that this is a 'new' cooker to the OP since according to their website Hotpoint haven't made this model for a number of years.Brand new cooker ?
Has this circuit worked prior to the installation of this cooker?
If you disconnect the cooker does the circuit still trip?
I think that neither you nor an electrician may change that 30mA RCD for a 100mA one.I really appreciate your help, I think it's probably best if I call my electrician back in who fitted the consumer unit, what do you think
