dunno if he was a Nazi or not. Not to say there were not Nazis on that side of the family ? my mothers 2 older brothers (both deceased) were in the Hitler youth movement

And my grandfather got banged up for 7 years after the war , although he did not serve the full term . dunno what he did ? but he was in the police ?

Or a German soldier.... My Grandfather told my dad to enlist before he was old enough to make sure he was sent to a decent regiment rather being draughted and being sent to Russia... Things didn't go to plan, most of his platoon froze to death and had to eat his horse.

Oddly enough, following harsh treatment of the Ukraine by Stalin, the Ukrainians found their treatment by the Germans preferable..

The defeat at Stalingrad was the beginning of the end for the third reich.

Imagine how long the war would have dragged on for if Hitler had not attacked Russia. The amount of men , and hard ware that was deployed on the Russian front would have been in France waiting for the british & americans ??
