    Meter tails

It wouldnt be the dno doing a meter swap, it would be the suppliers or there agents

    Electrical installation from 1950s

Pilc can be unarmoured, tape armouring or wire armouring, the lead sheath would be used for the earth, the armouring would be bounded at terminations and any joints, there are also lead covered jute insulated cables about, in ilfracombe there are sections of a tape armoured 2 jute cores as...

    Meter change..

I work for wpd south west and we change iron clad cutouts alive if we deem it safe to do so, we dont always able to provide an earth though as we have old dc cables which we cant provide an earth because of the old jointing procidures, we would normally notchange tails though as they belong to...

    Good pictures of old stuff!

the incomer is rusty on the outside, but that is just the armouring, no purpose except protecting the cable, the lead sheath and the conducters and the paper insulation will be like new

    What supply type is this?

here in north devon, when the dno used that type of clamp it was soldered on top, later clamps where steel henley clamp and now using roll springs, although a lot of electricians have put those clamps on and called us when the z's where high, only to have the clamp taken off because earth not...

Is it illegal to do this?

fao jak, the dno will more than likely work on it live, i would but then i work for wpd

Is it illegal to do this?

you are wrong saying its an armoured cables as no dno's use armoured cable, they use twin or split concentric, if it is armoured cable then it is a private submain, it is illegal as well as dangerous, call the dno and they will give you a quote, the cable through loft space doesnt meet with...

    meter box

i think it was sometime in the late 90's that wpd stopped looping house services although after hat they di continue to loop out to streetlights, doesn't make any difference to you as if looping to a house the cable from the mains will be larger (typically 35 al hybris) to allow for 2 houses.

    Cable Colours

i work for a dno and we work live on cables, 3 core not to bad, but a four core is horrible, red 2 brown, yellow 2 BLACK, BLUE 2 grey, BlACK 2 BLUE, a lots of room for error, they advise new jointers to black heatshrink the old core colours and mark with l1, l2 tapes, if only were allowed in...

    Cable Colours

it was going to be brown black black, but would only be able to tell which black was which on 4 core cables, no good when 90% of new mains distribution is 3 core cables, western power wanted to have 3 brown cores with numbers, the same as old paper insulated cables(pilc and consac) but that was...

    Metering - !! westie101 !!

there are bound to be losses with a tx, there is also tolerances on metres, esp privates, although shouldn't be to far out if using ex dno ct's, hopefully the better tarrif will make it worthwhile.

    Electricity supply through loft

we are not allowed to run cables through lofts any more, ask someone round to look, good chance if you do all the digging they may replace it for only a small fee as they would need to remove it out of the loft space

    Western power

it depends on the type of cable, the fact its live is not a problem, if you post a pic i may be able to advise you better,(i work for wpd!)

    Western power

you would have to get electrian to move your tails if you had an outside box fitted, because they are your tails, not the dno's. why cant you keep the meter where it to, if you provide a new access hole the cost would be a lot cheaper, you need to remember the dno is a private company who are...

    What size tails?

16mm cu or 25 al is for 80 amp, although would be terminated in a 100 amp cutout, 25mm cu or larger would be needed for 100 amp
