    It is the screws in the side of the door which attach the piece of metal that holds the lock in place. Does that help (sorry, not very good at technical stuff)

    Thanks for the reply. The cracks are really fine that you can't feel them when you run your finger over it. I will try the mist coat and see how it looks.

    Hi, we recently had our bedroom skimmed and part of the plaster cracked as the plaster underneath has blown. The plasterer came out and removed this section before replastering however due to the hot weather we have had I think it has dried out too quick and some hairline cracks have formed...

    Thanks, he was skimming over the previous wall as the surface was rubbish. We had removed all the damaged plaster on the previous layer before this was done. There is also another area which sounds hollow but has not cracked. Should this come off to?

    We have recently had our bedroom walls skimmed but when we went to put on the second coat of paint, noticed we have a thin crack in the new paintwork. A second coat of paint has not helped. Tapping the wall it does seen to be hollow. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

    This pic does not show it very well as it is very pale paint. The wall has been newly skimmed however tapping on this part of the wall it seems hollow unlike the rest of the wall.

    Crack in new paint

    I am currenlty decorating my bedroom though when we went to put on the second coat of paint, noticed we have a thin crack in the new paintwork about six inches long. A second coat of paint has not helped. Any suggestions? The rest of the wall is fine. Thanks

    What order to paint

    Can anyone advise if it is best to paint the walls or skirting boards first? I always thought you paint the skirting boards first and come up a little higher but most things I have read say to start from the top of a room and work down. Also any tips on how to paint the skirting and doors...
