Kitchen Island Extractor - powering it

OK thats good to know. Now can I connect it up via a 3A FCU mounted in the ceiling next to the appliance? Or high on the wall just beneath the ceiling? (I.e are there any specific regs relating to max. height of switches, eg so disabled folk can reach it??) thanks for the help!

Kitchen Island Extractor - powering it

Kitchen Island Extractor - powering it

hmm All the appliance came with was an installation booklet, can't find anything referring to the rating. Nor is there a sticker or anything obvious on the fan itself. I can open the cover and take a look at the transformer would that suffice?

Kitchen Island Extractor - powering it

Firstly apologies for the delay in the response. The fuse in the plug is 13A. So that kind of rules out wiring it in to the lighting circuit! I really don't like the idea of plugging it in to a socket in the bedroom above, that sounds like a cop-out! I have to say the pullcord is a...

Kitchen Island Extractor - powering it

Hi All, I'm installing a ceiling mounted Island Extractor which comes with a 3pin plug. Just thinking about the best way to wire it up. What I dont want to do is just connect it to a socket as... 1. the only socket it would reach would be one in the bedroom above 2. a socket added to...

    Bit of an exam question!!!

Yep I'll do that. THe confusion for me lies in not understanding how zone C is going to get power to it based on the circuit I have. Thanks for the input though, and yep I'll take a look as you say. Ta.

    Bit of an exam question!!!

both zone A and B already are live - the 2C+E on the left hand switch works the lights in zone A, and one of the 3C+E's on the top switch works the lights for zone B. I dunno how to get zone C lit up though!! :?

    Bit of an exam question!!!

sorry, the cables arn't above any particular switch in the diagram, Actually, on the left hand switch, the 2c+E supplies Zone A. The remaining 3c+E cables are presumably to run up to the uppermost switch in the diagram for the 2-way switching. Agreed that the R/H switch is an intermediate...

    Bit of an exam question!!!

Hi All, I've been left with a first-fix lighting circuit I need to finish up. It has three zones A, B and C. There are 2 switches: a single, double and triple -they operate the zones as per the diagram below. Each switch has the following wires going to it. All are 3 core and Earth apart...

kitchen oulets for appliances - location?

unfortunately thats not an option here, though I could put the switch in the blockwork return next to french door, but it would be a bit strange as folk might think it was the light switch (all those are on the other side of the french doors). So, the conclusion is as per the diagram, with it...

kitchen oulets for appliances - location?

Ah right - I should have been clearer, next to thewashing machine is a pair of french doors - butted up against the windowframe - so there is no wall here... Also, the Kitchen isnt a full 2.4m in height (cottage) so the worktop will come a few inches below the window seal where the sink /...

kitchen oulets for appliances - location?

Actually you've also reminded me, I had one other question on the same.... I'm having a extractor chimney hood for our island. Given this is ceiling-mounted, I'm going to need to put the FCU and 3 Pole Fan isolator switch on a wall. I was just going to put these high up near ceiling level...

kitchen oulets for appliances - location?

thanks to all for the help so far, I'm much happier now! one last question, my washing machine sits next to a sink, under a windowseal, so there isnt really an option to place a switch closeby above the worktop which would then run down to the socket. What I propose to do is place the...

kitchen oulets for appliances - location?

Its a solid 9" wall, and I've battened it since it has a a sandwich of foil insulation between the wall and plasterboard. So, there's no chasing to do and I had plenty of cable so it wasn't any extra work...I prefer to do it this way so I can confidently screw the boards to the battens as I...

kitchen oulets for appliances - location?

the island is less than 2m away as the crow flies, but the cable run would be longer I guess. I presume the two meters away is to allow the operative to islolate the cooker quickly rather than have to walk/run over to a switch the other side of the room..!
