    Re tiling Conservatory floor

Tried a heat gun. Full on for 20 minutes - wouldn't touch it. Its tile adhesive - set like stone.

    Re tiling Conservatory floor

OK thanks. Whats left is quite stubborn to shift, but I agree. Do it properly, do it once. About 15 tiles to replace.

    Re tiling Conservatory floor

I am replacing some floor tiles in the conservatory. Do I need to remove all of what is left of the old adhesive or can I tile on top of the thin layer that is left? Original tiles were laid 10 years ago.

    Acrylic/Eggshell preparation

I'm fed up with my gloss paint going discoloured so for my next stint of decorating I'm going to use acrylic/eggshell paint. Do I need to use a different undercoat than what I have used for gloss?

Come on. Someone must know the answer.

    Rewire?

OK - new development! Electrician says council can't make me change sockets - Council says I must to comply with Housing Act. Going to change them anyway but want to do it myself. I thought this was not under part P as I am just changing sockets on existing circuit but electrician says I...

    Rewire?

Many thanks for the replies. No rewire required. Going to convert the two single sockets in each bedroom to two doubles. It's all tax deductible - let's get it right. :D

    Rewire?

Ah yes - there were other requirements but nothing else electrical. Property has solid doors which they said are acceptable (but only recently) and other sundry bits like thumb-locks on doors, fire extinguisher and blanket. Can understand most of it - wouldn't want a son or daughter of mine...

    Rewire?

Time will tell Stephen. I wouldn't but it past them to be awkward if they decide to be. Did you need a rewire?

    Rewire?

They gave a long list - but emphasised that it was mostly a guideline and work to be done was at the discretion of the electrician. They did insist on the fire detection, which is fair enough I think. Just worried about the costs stacking up - the rent coming in is to pay for care home...

    Rewire?

Have been through the local authority already and have a PIR booked for this week. Just worried about any extra costs on top of the fire detection system that has to go in. Would you expect a rewire after 30 years? Perhaps I should be patient and wait to see what the rewire says. :)

    Rewire?

Whats the chances that a 1978 bungalow which is being turned into a hmo for students will need a rewire?

Hotpoint integrated freezer hz141 - thermal cut out?

Have defrosted it and emptied it. Still does exactly the same - just runs for a couple of minutes then switches off, then starts up again. Is a new thermostat a diy job? I'll have a go at most things but don't know much about freezers.

Hotpoint integrated freezer hz141 - thermal cut out?

This is 4.5 years old. Its cuts out and restarts every few minutes. Does that sound like the thermal cut out? Is 4.5 years about right for a modern appliance. How do I fix it - or am I a victim of today's throw away system? Any help appreciated, thanks.

    Condensing boilers-contentious question

15 years eh? Right - I'm keeping Big Bertha a bit longer, 29 years old and going strong! (Famous last words) As to saving the world - there's a lot more could be done before Joe Public picks up the cost!

    Condensing boilers-contentious question

How long are they expected to last before you replace one? If its 10 years or less, does that not wipe out the savings on heating bills? :?

    Fixings for breeze block

I want to put some shelves up in my garage. I want to put wooden battens on the breeze block and fix the brackets to the battens. Any good fixings out there to make sure the battens hold up?
