2 lights into 1 dimmer

Chaps - success.

Based on your suggestion - but it seems in the 'non-live' twin cable the black wire was the spare rather than the red!

So the final set-up, which works, is:
'live' red to ~
'non live' red and 'live' black to L1
'non live' black to choc

So I assume this is practically, if not officially, correct?
