A bit theoretical, but yes, it is either phase or line and neutral. For those who do not agree, if you touch the neutral of when the light is on
BS provided the neutral is properly connected it should not give you a shock.

Term 'Line' is common parlance. I didn't use the term live as both phase/line and neutral conductors are considered to be live conductors (BS 7671). The first suggestion was real and with good intentions; the second was on account of his/her apparent ability and well being at heart.


I cannot believe that I have bothered to reply to this. Oh well.
 
I would hardly describe line as common parlance, a few documents use the term but certainly live remains the normal term.

All this confusion really stems from someone at the IEE defining live to mean any conductor they were treating as live regardless of whether it was actually live.
