Hi,
I am thinking about using wall sockets to connect up my bi-wirable speakers to my amp. The reason being Is that I will be chasing and sinking speaker wire into the wall.
Is it recommended to use or not use them as another break in the speaker wire is introduced(amp to wall socket,,,,,wall socket to speakers).

The alternative is to sink my wires into the wall and just have them sticking out of the wall straight to my speakers.

I was thinking of using this product by nexxia..

I appreciate all the advice given

as long as the connection is good, there is no reason not to use them, unless you beleive the hi-fi snake oil that is around, in which case find some of those with the decimal place moved 2 places to the right...

and just use good old flex for your speaker cable too,

Hey,
thanks for your response. I am somewhat confused at what you are referring to below. Please explain.

the hi-fi snake oil that is around????

some of those with the decimal place moved 2 places to the right???

and just use good old flex for your speaker cable too??? As in normal electrical cable?

thank you

 he is warning you off the specialist shops that sell gold-plated wire and oxygen-free copper at prices designed to separate a fool from his money

yes, indeed.

there are lots of products around at silly prices claiming to do this that and the other for your Hi-Fi, when in reality, they do nothing or very little in household situations.

http://www.russandrews.com/ is a good example of what not to buy...

depending on the size of your amp 1.5mm or 2.5mm flat or round flex is good enough for your needs.

you mention Bi-amping your speakers..
do you have a quad amp, or simple just running 2 sets of cables from your amps outputs to your speakers, if the latter, there is no advantage to Bi-wiring your speakers, its coming from the same source, this is onle an advantage whn each bit of the speaker has effectivly its own amp.

even then its unliky you will hear the difference, many studio monitors do not have bi-wired terminals, and these are designed for accuracy...

Nice! Completely useless unless you use these as well though... "It's the most cost effective upgrade ever!"

... such an easy target ...

That is quite shocking seeing all those products!
Well I ordered my biwire wall socket plates and they are gold plated. Ive had plenty of practice soldering but never with gold plated contacts.

Do i need to tin the contacts?
Can i just clean the terminals and solder straight on?
Can i get away with using leaded solder or do i have to resort to lead free?

Thanks for your help so far!

Oooh, if I buy a pack of 10 it's cheaper!

Me going to buy his £1300 digical interconnect. For £1300 it must have far more digical ones and noughts in it, and digical means better doesn't it? :?: :?: :?:

Just reading the descriptions for some of this stuff... "We sourced the spray bottle in America after exhaustive trials to give a better dispersion of cleaning fluid"... People who buy into this snake oil, how do they ever get anything done if they pay this much attention to details? "I married this woman because I liked the way her sister looks, but I find that being exactly half an inch shorter somehow improves the way she can cook egg and chips".

I am assuming people with uber-hifi's like women as well as expensive bits of wire...

You'll find that egg and chips experience is more 'well rounded and inclusive' and that the yolk does indeed taste 'half an inch shorter'.
100% of gullible idiots who were too embarrassed to admit otherwise agreed.

It is the 'shape' of the cook that affects the initial taste of the eggs. The colour of their hair seems related to the main flavour while their height mostly influences the after taste. The water used to boil an egg must be sourced from the same locality as the egg. Never boil an egg on an electric hob, the magnetism inhibits homoeopathic benefits. For the very best flavour, light the gas with a match rather than the built-in igniter; the ozone generated by an igniter encourages the formation of free radicals. ;)

to the OP,

agree with others that no problem using them as long as you have a clean, good connection.

re: bi-wiring, you may well find that this is much more effort than it is worth,
bi-amping can be noticeable, but bi-wiring will be hard (impossible?) to tell any difference. I did it once for my system, it was all psychological.

also, if you do bi-amp or bi-wire, do not forget to remove the external crossover !! :)
