Aircraft carriers

One other thing to consider, with the advancements with drones, will we even need manned aircraft in 20 years time?

In which case an aircraft carrier would need to be very different than one designed today.

Iraq managed hit Israel with something similar. What a short memory you have.

Hitting a country is not the same as hitting a blob in the ocean.

Are you saying that no missile can hit any carrier sized ship? Why do they have them then?

Scud missiles and cannons can't hit carriers, neither are that accurate.

Carriers used to be known as bomb magnets, however these days their defences are pretty awesome as are weaponry of the accompanying shipping that are there to defend them.

No military ship is immune.

If a Scud TYPE missile was fitted with a modern day guidance system it could. How are you going to defend against that? How many did the Patriot shoot down?

Of all missiles that could be used the scud is probably the worst choice, too slow.

joe you make an argument as if you know what you are talking about, and then compare apples with oranges. How about go away and research it yourself before ranting.

Joe you started out with a cannon ball, later it became a cannon ball made of depleted uranium. You then put it on a scud missile that could not carry it and fired it into orbit.

Now you want it to have a modern guidance system.

Talk about moving goal posts.[/img]

Not moving them at all. If you took any modern missile and replaced the warhead with a tonne of depleted uranium (so it couldn't be exploded before arrival) and fired it at a carrier - it would be completely unstoppable. You prove to me otherwise.

Two sides to the story Joe,by making the carriers at least it will keep the ship builders in employment rather than put them on benefits. ;)

just come back from northumberland via sunderland and was told that the foreign labourers are already being brought in to do the work as we sit around conversing how good for jobs & british shipbuilding it is.....

You have said some extremely stupid things in the past, but this takes the biscuit.

This is your theory so you prove that it is unstoppable, you of course can't do that can you?

You seem to get away with an awful lot of nasty posts which never get deleted. A short time ago I posted a comment about you identical to one you posted about another person. Guess what? It was deleted within minutes. That makes you a Mod. Please, don't deny it.

Grow up Dandy.

How many Scuds did the Patriot shoot down? 50? 40? Well none actually. Not one. So why do you think they can shoot down any other missile? They can't.
Even if they could destroy 99 out of 100 - that one they missed would still sink the carrier.

Actually a few were shot down, but the Patriot system wasn't very reliable.

But you're right, would only take one to get through, but more likely to be an Exocet rather than a Scud though.
