Anyone Familiar with Internal Wiring of Boilers? (sorted)

Thank you Terry.

So I will 'piggyback' off the existing power supply. Given I have exactly the same setup as in the original posts in this discussion, looking at the previous wiring diagram, do I need to take a feed of the 'F' in the very top right for live and 'N' for neutral? What does 'F' stand for?

The above picture shows the actual wiring which corresponds to the wiring diagram. That brown wire third from the left is the 'F' coming from switch terminal 1 in the wiring diagram. Because it is crimped and not attached via screw terminal, how would you suggest I piggyback on this? Should I re-crimp it with two wires attached?

Many thanks.

I shouldn't be so flipping with my awnsers.

Can you pick up from the fused spur or is the boiler on a plug

In that scenario I would change the boiler supply to a fused spur and connect in my stat supply from there

The boiler is powered by a domestic plug.

Hmmm. I'm beginning to think it may be easier to just use a battery-powered wired thermostat. Then I wouldn't have to worry about sorting out a mains supply.

Is it a problem that my boiler is plugged in rather than on its own spur?

It's safer to have all of the heating, boiler, controls, stat etc wired off of the same supply.

That way if someone has to work on it they don't get any suprises

A shock being a surprise!

Today I was needing to isolate an immersion heated to replace the switch.

The consumer units both had many labelled MCbs.

The one labelled "Water Heater" was NOT the immersion heater.

In fact it was one of the THREE unlabelled MCbs feeding the actual heater!

Motto always TEST anything before you touch it.
