Back flow preventer on wall outlet hose connection

I noticed a wall outlet hose connection by Hansgrohe which has a back flow preventer, (model no. 27458000).

I can get a good quality unbranded solid brass connector which does not have back flow preventer for about £5.

I'm not sure what the backflow preventer is, or if it is needed/required/preferable.

You may find a suitable option and at a more reasonable cost.

As for this device being a requirement? depends on where you live and the local requirements

Depends what you are using it for?

It may even need Cat5 protection, backflow protection like that wouldn't cover it.

It'd be for a shower hose to attach to on the wall for a hand-held shower head. The shower head being on the wall over a bath.
