the wiring from my old hob is to big to fit into the connectors of my new one. Do i just squeeze them in by trimming them down

If you cant fit the cable,
Why not buy the correct cable & wire it back to the cooker outlet.

the old ones are oven ones i think, they have 5or6 strands and fitted to the old hob with a nut and bolt.
the new hob has small connectors, is it SAFE to trim them down.
If not is there a cable i can replace it with, and what would i ask for

The instructions with your hob, will specify the cable you require.

If they did, i would be having a full english, instead of cereal for breakfast tomorrrow

Your hob should have been supplied with
1 set of installation instructions
1 set of user instructions.
