Purchased Samsung ssd 840 250GB kit, cloned original 320GB Samsung HDD using Macrium Reflect freeby - 7yr old Dell Inspiron 530 desktop - not sata6 but works a treat, fast boot etc.
Have fitted two other types one in a net book the other in home built desktop, Vertex and Sandisk Extreme - the latter in full sata6 environment - very quick.
Good experience all round, drives installed over a year ago...

Interested to know how the software clones the existing disk but presumably has to do some driver updates??

Macrium reflect imaging software :-
http://kb.macrium.com/KnowledgebaseArticle50081.aspx
...You can restore an Image file to the original or a new hard drive or even to a new replacement computer (the latter may need the Professional or Server editions of Macrium Reflect to make the new hard drive bootable with new hardware by using ReDeploy; a cloned hard drive installed with new hardware may also need these editions of Macrium Reflect for ReDeploy)...

In my case, both for the Dell desktop and netbook laptop I was essentially replacing an original, working, HDD with an SSD. Same OS, same disk contents, same hardware, just different type and size of drive. So no driver updates required to get up and running.

By hook or by crook, got through the situation where our 7 y/o Dell Inspiron desktop doesn't offer AHCI mode in bios settings.
Sort of blended this :-

And this - (posts by 'koitsu') :-

Ended up with Samsung SSD in raid but single drive attached -JBOD - they say, installed all latest (apparently) relevant drivers from Intel.
Result ? Big difference to HDD, fast boots and prog loading.
Samsung software (came with drive kit) benchmarks collected regularly look stable over a year or so.
