Just moved into a new house and looking at options for the kitchen. Currently there are 2 doors in the Kitchen, there is a door at the back of the kitchen which is the only means of entering the garden (without going around the side) (semi detached). The other door is where you enter the kitchen from when inside the house, via the hallway which the kitchen follows through from. To the side of the kitchen is the 'back room'. We are planning to get a window person to take out the window in the back room and replace it with patio doors. We would like to brick up the external door in the kitchen and have the patio doors as the means to get into the garden instead.
We wouldn't be removing any lintels, the patio doors are the same width as the window.

Does this fall foul of any of the building regs? The window man is FENSA registered etc so covered in that respect. But I'm thinking along the lines of escape routes etc.

Anyone clued up with this sort of thing? Be very grateful for your input.

Cheers.

As long as there is an escape window in the kitchen, that arrangement would be OK.
But escape windows have defined measurements, and if your existing kitchen window has, eg, just a top opener, that would not comply.

Cheers for that, Tony. The window is just a top opener. Its getting replaced though so I will just get the new one as an escape window.

Cheers
