Morning all, I'm looking for advise on building blockwork walls.

Currently building a new timber frames house, but we have a large open plan basement.

I need to put in some walls to create a cinema rooms, but want to do them in blockwork and not stud for acoustics.

The ceiling height to the underside of the hollow core floor is 3m high, but I need to leave gaps to run services through along the top. As the walls are 7m long, the bricky who built the upstand thinks they maybe unstable, but he didn't have many ideas as to how to resolve.

Any ideas please?

Cheers, Jez.

That's too high for a 100mm block wall unless restrained. Blocks laid flat (i.e. 215mm thick wall) will be fine for a wall up to 4m high.

Easier to use something like GypWall Quiet, others are available of course...pinenot :)

What thickness should I go for 140mm?

How would you restraine them?

Cheers Jez
