Boiler/Hot water systen not working

Hi

I have a Potterton, Powermax HE 115 Litre condensing boiler with intergrated hot water storage.

I have had a small leak on a radiator which has gradually caused the system pressure to drop, eventually the pressure hit below 'P 0.9'.

Unfortunately I have not got around to topping up the pressure!

Yesterday however I noticed the heating wasn't on, so when I went to investigate, I found that the boiler had turned it's self off completely!!
There are NO lights lit on the status display window apart from the the amber neon light underneath the boiler on/off switch,

Neither the status/error code window or programmer display window display anything either. It's as if the system has got no power whatsoever.

I have switched the boiler switch off and on, turned the main house electricity off and on and even changed the fuse to the power supply for the boiler, but still no power.

Can anyone please offer any suggestions ???

Powermax's are a more specialised subject. They have known issues with the PCB's. I always recommend contacting the manufacturers when these have problems.

You evidently noticed that the pressure was low. This takes about a minute to increase so I am surprised you did not do it then.

Its possible the only problem with your system is that the pressure is low. I would not expect you would not be posting here if you had not reset it but you have not actually said so.

So, have you restored the pressure to about 1.5 Bar?

Sounds like your PCB has failed

No fix - no fee sort of deal would be ideal (do they still make boilers)

Same thing happened to me last week. The PCB is dead and requires a replacement. Get the PCB for the huba pressure sensor and also a new huba pressure sensor as it won't be compatible with the new type panel. You will need a conversion kit as well as the new huba pressure sensor has a larger thread and a different connector which I found out today!

The reason Potterton changed to the huba pressure sensor is because the ranco type was crap as everyone kept having the boiler go into lockout as it detect inaccurate drop of pressure.

If you want to save money. The problem with the board is the blue ecapsulated transformer which has died thus no 9v. Easily replaced with a bit of soldering skill and if you manage to find a suitable transformer.

I am convinced it's going to cost me an arm and a leg if I get a gas man round !

joking aside get some one in, lots of people are doing fixed rate repairs nowadays

Tha parts needed is Control panel No. 5107535 and Huba pressure transmitter conversion kit No. 5108422. The conversion kit includes the pressure transmitter, lead and adapter. Touch wood no problems since installing this upgrade.

Just do a search for potterton boiler parts or pop into a local boiler spares store.
