Hi, can anybody please advise?

I have purchased above single oven (2.75kw). The electrical instructions are not very clear! They say not to connect with plug and not to use 13amp fuse!. They don't actually say what should be used! Any information greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Gary.

Very roughly 2.75 Kw is 12.5 Amps @ 220V

This means that the oven which could be on for hours at a time could be pulling near the maximum rating of a plug and socket.

Try seeing how warm a 2kw fan heater plug gets after an hour or so. They are being cautious is all.

Usually they will recommend wiring into a cooker control unit (which has the advantage of isolating the live and neutral when switched off) fed off a separate circuit (most kitchens already have these).

Hi, thanks for that. If 12.5 Amps is what the oven is pulling, then a 13 amp plug/fuse would normally be enough?? But because it is possibly going to pull this ampage for a lengthy period, a bigger fuse (mcb) and cable and separate circuit is required?? What would be recommended as cable size and mcb size??

Many thanks,

Gary.

Usually it would be connected into the existing cooker circuit in the kitchen using 6mm twin and earth.

The 2.75 kw is the designed rating depending on various factors (quality of element, how good the connections are, what your particular voltage is, etc) the oven could pull more so that is why I said they are being cautious.

Note

All electrical work installing new circuits in a domestic dwelling is subject to building regs and needs to be informed to your local authoritys building control department.
