Hi there

I'm tring to replace an old plastic single light switch with a brass dimmer. I need some help with the coloured wiring. Not as simple as most of the switches I have taken off before.

White plastic:

Common = solid yellow (not earth)
L2 = 2 x red
L1 = 1 x black & 1 x blue

How do the above go into th the dimmer? as have tried wiring the same way, but when I turn the fuse back on, it just sparks and resets back to off.

I know its something simple, but I just cant fatham it out.

Any help would be greatly appricated. :LOL:

you did buy a 2-way dimmer didnt you? What sort of switch is at the other end of the 2-way circuit? is it just a normal switch? (you cant have 2 dimmers controlling one light)

not part of this problem, but you do have earths at the switch dont you? These are required for metal fittings.
