Not sure RichardP, sorry. my Drug Tariff is a little bit out of date!

Don't buy it online though, you can never be sure of the quality of the drugs you are buying

If your GP won't prescribe it to you you can always ask him/her for a private prescription ;)

Don't worry, I won't tell anyone about your little problem

What Brightness forgot to mention was that for every £1:00 spent on R & D £2:00 is spent on promotion of drugs.

When you have the time work out how much you pay the Government from your earnings. Do just that. My estimate would be about 90%. This lady with cancer must be as scared as a child in a strange dark place. Our country demands first world taxes and gives back third world service. It is a shame on our country, a crying shame.

Just one :?:

What happen's to the money ( for cancer research ) people donate, and the charity's who generate money,
Does the money go to these companys, in order to find a curer for cancer
then do they sell them at a high price.

there is no easy answer is there..
I see the larger picture, I really do.
But... you look at a dying person and their loved ones holding them.
Its easy to make decisions when you arent looking directly at the consequencies.
Or... when you arent looking directly into the partners or childs eyes...
someone big has to make the ' un emotional 'decisions.
Hey... let them look into their own mothers eyes and say mam, Im going to let you die because you cost too much!!!'
It wouldnt happen!!!

God... Im on a real bloody mission tonight.
Just fed up about the rubbish in life and suffering.
venting!!!
feel better already !!!!

Really? Well, I didn't mention it because I was totally unaware of it  .

As I said, I am not condoning any PCT for not prescribing a much needed drug. I truly believe that if a drug is needed then a patient should get it.

All I was trying to do is explain why drugs are so expensive, especially when they are 'new'.

The reason Cancer is so prevalent these days is because less people die earlier from other stuff. Even in this case, you could cure the cancer, and then she could develop a different form in a few years, or move onto a different illness or wind up bedridden in a home suffering from Alzheimers or crippled by Osteoporosis. Whenever you cure one thing, you are only passing time until something else gets you. Maybe we just need to accept more that when your time's up, your time's up.
I'll tell that to my wife, shall I? She was diagnosed with breast cancer last year. She had a mastectomy, and is almost at the end of her chemotherapy. She's actually in hospital right now because she got flu which turned into a very dangerous infection because her white blood cell count was so low.

But she's coming out tomorrow, we hope.

So shall I tell her when I go to collect her, or wait until we are home?

Really sorry to hear that BAS :(
Its horrible for anyone to go through.
I hope your wife is back out tomorrow and well on her way to a full recovery.

I hope it doesn't sound trite, as I don't know you, but I sincerely wish all the very best to both of you :D

Sorry to hear that BAS, and I really hope all goes well for you and your family. I will freely admit that I would view the topic from a different angle if I were as emotionally involved in the specifics of the subject so, out of respect for your feelings if nothing else, I'd like to stop discussing it now.

Good Luck !

Hello Brightnes. My posting was a knee jerk reaction and not very well worded. Please understand that I meant no offence. The whole subject is very emotive. I have just lost a sister to cancer. The quality of life is important to all. For the government to stop treatment on the grounds of cost is barbaric. There is lots more I would like to say to the government but would it make a difference?

SADNESS

It's not the government setting the prices it's the Pharmaceuticals!

Hello Kendor

I posted a note to Brightness and somehow it has landed in your box. I have had this occur once before and thought it was my mistake. Now I see the system sometimes has an off day. Anyway just thought I would let you know.

B-A-S I'm so sorry to hear your wife has been so ill. I hope her immune system soon picks up and she is strong and healthy once more :D Give her a gentle hug from me :~)

Williams89 It's OK I didn't take offence I honestly did not know about the costs of the advertising  . I too have lost so many people to cancer, who were very close to me. I lost my Dad a few years ago to kidney cancer which was slow growing and had taken over 20 years to kill him. His GP had been sending him home and telling him he was a hypochondriac for 20 years - all the time they were symptoms of the cancer that could have been detected by a simple urine test

My darling sis-in-law who was like a sister to me passed away last summer from ovarian cancer (silent killer  ) and numerous friends over the last ten years all to young to die.

I honestly think that if Herceptin had been available to my one friend then she'd still be here today. She lost her fight to breast cancer aged just 26 and with 2 year old twins

If the NHS spent less money on free plastic surgery with hang ups about their boobs and saggy bellies after kids and less money of free gender re-assignments then i think they could easily fund Herceptin. That's just my humble opinion of course.

And in case you're wondering yes, free plastic surgery on saggy boobs and bellies does get carried out - I know several women who have had this sort of surgery on the NHS
