Central Heating drained and now problem with hot water

Tell you what, most other boilers being set away with no water in and its goodnight boiler..... as the previous lads have said, fingers and toes crossed the pretty durable old apollo might just have saved ya bacon...

Your plumber wants well and truly knobbling for not making it 100% clear NOT to operate the boiler and isolating it..... in short... hes a t.wat

Our boiler has 2 settings, Central heating and hot water, or just hot water, which I imagine would be the same with most boilers. So if the water is drained from the Radiators why can't the boiler just carry on heating the hot water system as we still have water running out of the taps?

Because the water that comes out the taps is not the same water in the boiler.

You have a closed circuit, call them the primary pipe, which heats the water as it passes through the boiler, and then transfers that heat to the rads or cylinder, then return to the boiler to get hot again.

thanks everyone for your help. The plumber came today and refilled the radiators and the boiler works ok, well so far anyway!
