A popular Tibetan Proverb goes… ‘A child without education is like a bird without wings’.
Education broadens the mind.

Thank you for your most valuable cohtribution

A popular modern Tibetan proverb: A stupid child with a media studies degree is more likely to vote for the one that offers to pay off his student debt. :ROFLMAO:

The real issue here - is that demand for school places is not being backed up by funding and schools are having to increase their efforts to raise money - If that is actually true.

Why don't you think it is true?

https://www.ifs.org.uk/publications/13143

Between 2009-10 and 2017-18, total school spending per pupil in England fell by about 8% in real terms, which compares with about 5% in Wales.

I read it - and the text cannot be argued based on the data for reasons already pointed out.
Its like saying labour voters have better eye sight, because our survey says fewer labour voter wear glasses. Then there is the whole comparison with routes to education for those working 20 or 30 years ago. I don't have data, but I suspect in the 1980s, more Chartered Engineers gained their status through apprenticeship, accreditation and exams, than those who accessed via a degree.

Student numbers have doubled in the last 25 years. The data needs to be normalised, you don't need a degree in maths to work that out. You either take a slice by Age or you adjust for the increase in education levels over time.

The real issue here - is that demand for school places is not being backed up by funding and schools are having to increase their efforts to raise money - If that is actually true.

So what are you objecting? That the data was not collected correctly or was not analysed correctly? Is it a sampling error?

How do you know it wasn't normalised?

Which makes them less well educated...

A debt imposed on them by old people!

In most of the rest of Europe University fees are zero or very small.

Whereas the UK has the highest university fees in the world...

So a European country which has less well educated old people appears to not give a monkeys about the young!

We could of course show a graphic of another young/old divide 'issue', but then that would give us the same result ;)
To many kids going to university and coming out with Micky mouse degrees,

That is not Tibetan, It is Trumpish. You cannot read your sources properly.

The university's only care about fees, so they promote courses in almost every subject, Politics, media studies( which consists of reading the news papers and watching TV.) , sociology and suchlike.
The UK is short of real engineers so the university's should be concentrating on stem subjects to produce graduates with real qualifications.

What's the alternative? If there was a choice of apprenticeships on offer then I'm sure those numbers would decline - instead of thousands of applicants clamouring for a few work placements.

The conclusions cannot be made based on the data. Simple as that.

We do not know, the education levels by age of the sample. Nobody on this thread has made an argument that it is valid to compare the education levels of a 65 year old with that of a 30 year old, for the likely reason that 30 year olds are more likely to be educated to degree level. Therefore the conclusion that labour voters are better educated that conservative cannot be made, once we take account of the difference in voting age.

Couple that with the latest polls and there cannot be argument (by inference) that the conservatives are deliberately dumbing down the electorate by under funding education in order to secure votes. Its beyond stupid.

I have to agree.

However the reason for that is because degrees are now 'big business'...

And because it is 'big business', school pupils are told (one could almost say brainwashed) that they 'need' one.
And slowly more and more jobs 'need' you to have one, even though the qualification is often irrelevant.

A few get rich and a lot end up in debt before their careers begin - which is kind of the plan!

Nursing is now a degree course.

More emphasis on academic than practical training.

And when a degree is 'needed', on the job experience suffers.

Plus when that degree is 'needed', the student bursary is then removed.
(Just at the time when we'll be requiring many more 'homegrown' nurses)

Kerching - profit before people!

I've done quite a bit of graduate recruitment over the years. We wouldn't touch anyone unless they'd done a work placement and a relevant degree.

A young person would be very naive to think their degree in criminology (known to be very easy) will get them a top business graduate position.

loads and loads of flannel.

The fact remains, however, that less educated people are more likely to vote conservative.
