Hello all,

I'm not sure if this is the correct place for this message or not. I live in a 1940's built self-contained flat. At one point or other in the past there was an old coal fire, which is no longer here.

At the end of the hallway I have a cupboard which has a chute coming in from the communal area (its locked shut) and it is full of coal and soot.

I'd like to clear it out to gain some much needed storage space.

I have 3 questions regarding the removal of the coal:

1, Is there a specific way of removing the coal/soot from the cupboard space (the floor/walls of the cupboard are bare concrete)?

2, Does it need to be specially disposed of?

3, Are there any associated health risks with cleaning it out myself?

Many thanks and apologies if i posted the message in the wrong place.

Why not post a message on freecycle saying " free coal whoever wants it has to bag & remove it"
That way someone will benefit from it & you will have it removed FOC.
