Hi,

Have been told that the floor in three rooms needs to come up and have concrete membrane put in, have been quoted quite high for floor to come up - is there any reason I can't do this myself - have time and energy but no money!! if so.. what have I got to do?

hi fhester and welcome to the forum!

not rocket science to renew a dpm and concrete floor, more labour intensive.

to give good info it would be best to elaborate a bit more though.

You may or may not realise, but this is controlled works so needs to be done according to building regulations and will require inspecting.

You will need to remove the existing floor plus enough spoil to a depth of 450mm, below finished floor level.

Then put back:

100mm compacted mot.

25-50mm sand blinding also compacted.

125mm polystyrene/jablite insulation. (or 80mm celotex or kingspan).

100mm concrete slab.

75mm screed.

You can trowel finish the concrete slab if you wish thus saving 75mm. I personally like the convenience of a screed.
