How little do you want to spend?

Do you want an earphone jack (I listen to mine, while in bed; therefore; essential).

Is the display "dimmable"? (as above).

When and for how long do you want to listen to it for?

I listen to the radio every night in bed, with in-ear earphones.
So here are my observations (Bush DAB radio, bought probably solely because it was the only reasonably-priced one at the time with an earphone jack, in the shop):

display is not dimmable - therefore I put a folded tee-shirt over it (so as not to have the bedroom lit up, all night);
doesn't have a volume "knob", only "up" and "down" buttons. Being fussy perhaps, but the first increment of volume is a bit too loud to be honest - a volume knob would be better;
when it is on, it emits a humming noise - very quiet, but noticeable at night (which is precisely when it is on) - annoying.

We got the Bug, but I don't think they make them anymore.
- Stereo, MP3 playback, pause live broadcast, memory card slot, (or USB slot) etc. Very functional.

These are the functions we looked for anyway.

We also have a DAB with internet radio. This opens up a whole different world of music. So if there's nothing on 6Music (it happens sometimes), I can go to more obscure stations, which specialise in certain genres or range opf genres.

This looks good, but pricey, and has a CD player for some reason:

We have two PURE EVOKE 1 DAB radios and they are excellent. Had them about seven years now. When we did have a problem with one of the transformer plugs, the company replaced the whole thing including a new radio for free even though it was out of guarantee.

Thank you for those suggestions.

I am not needing a jack.

Dimming would be nice, plus gradual volume increase on alarm.

Until your suggestions I was thinking of Roberts Chronodab:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Roberts-CHR...r=8-1&keywords=Roberts+Chrono+DAB+Clock+Radio

or Philips AJB 3552:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Philips-AJB...424971391&sr=8-6&keywords=Philips+Clock+Radio

but the Philips, despite being listed at £60 on their own website is on Amazon for £80....

However, I value others recommendations more than my own judgement.

I've got DAB in my car, I don't use it though. I prefer the sound on FM and as I only listen to BBC radio 2, I just keep it on FM.

Just make sure its DAB+ rather than just DAB. Not sure you can get them with it these days, mind.

Well, I bought the Roberts one.

I have lived with it for a good while and the thing that narks me about it the most is that the alarm volume setting on the radio is fixed. I could do with a machine that you can set a volume for the alarm.

Plus, a large display is imperative. Auto dimming would be a bonus. The Roberts has dimming, but via a switch.

I have made a preliminary search and Pure Siesta Rise ( http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Pure-Sies...814612?hash=item33bfe56794:g:GkwAAOSwTdJXRMx7 ) seems decent.

Got any suggestions?

Cheers.

It's a Which best buy (or have you already seen that?)

Siesta Rise Today's best price: £74.99 Best Buy This is a truly impressive DAB radio. Not only does it sound superior to other alarm clock radios, but the Siesta Rise even stands up to more premium models. It matches this fantastic sound with a big, bright display to set a high benchmark for alarm clock radios.

the Chronos also has a CD player.

Which say:

We were mostly impressed with the Pure Chronos during testing. If you're willing to overlook a couple of audio quality niggles and a rather chunky design, this radio will serve you well. If you're looking for a slightly smaller radio, we suggest you take a look at Pure's Siesta Rise, a Which? Best Buy.

The Pure Chronos CD Series 2 is a DAB radio and alarm clock with a built-in CD tray. At around £100, Pure has justified the price of the radio by including a host of features aimed at music lovers, including manual bass controls, a dedicated remote and more.

...
Should I buy this radio?
Yes. Although this isn't the nicest-looking radio we've ever tested, it has lots of features to explore and connects easily to an MP3 player. Although its sound quality isn't good enough to make this product a Best Buy, the overall experience is still good.
