The black insulation material on the back of my dishwasher has melted at the top. Is this common on a ten year old machine? Does it matter, is it the sign of something wrong?

Thanks

by insulation do you mean electrical or acoustic/thermal ??
if its electrical unplug and look at a new machine

if its acoustic/thermal what equipment is in the area ??

Its the insulation covering the back of the machine - must be for sound proofing. The machine is in a normal kitchen poistion under a work top with cupboards either side. Cupboards have the usual mix of pots and pans...

If you mean the black tar like stuff on the outside of the tub then it often gets soft and melts (sometimes the wiring and pipework sticks to it or it melts around them other times it looks like it is starting to slide down the machine)

It is quite common on appliances especially if they are used to do the hottest washes. I don't think I have seen a machine over 6 month old that the stuff has not shifted or stuck to the wiring on
